Cottonland Castle

The historic neighborhood received its name from the distinctive Gothic Revival castle on Austin Avenue that was constructed between 1890 and 1913. Bearing its own historical markers and known as Cottonland Castle, the home has remained a hallmark of the neighborhood for many years.

In its early days in the 1920s, Castle Heights was just a grassy hill at the end of the streetcar line, with a clear view of the Amicable building downtown. The city of Waco has since grown miles beyond the hill, and oaks and magnolia trees haveā¦
