After Lacy and Lakeview established a common government in the 1950s, the suburban community’s population boomed and the area’s economy became heavily dependent upon nearby Waco. After a merger with Northcrest in the 1990s, the city qualified for home rule status under Texas law, providing Lacy Lakeview with greater independence from the state government.
