Technological improvements led to the creation of new treatment facilities as well as the conversion of pre-existing medical facilities. The Waco Crippled Children's Hospital, which was rendered obsolete following the advent of the Salk and Sabine vaccines, was eventually converted into the Texas Rehabilitation Center.
