Newspapers with their printed box scores prove helpful in tracing the history of black baseball and the careers of individual players. However, white newspapers inconsistently reported on black baseball, and not every community had a black paper that reported on the local team. Thus, the historical narratives of many semipro black baseball teams are often piecemeal and difficult to recover.
