Mae Jackson and her daughter, Andrea J. Barefield, both joined the sisterhood of Delta Sigma Theta during their undergraduate years. Sorors founded Delta Sigma Theta at Jackson’s alma mater, Texas Southern University, on March 9, 1949, and at Barefield’s alma mater, Sam Houston State University, on April 27, 1973.
