For twins Porter Mayberry and Gordon Mayberry, Juneteenth meant more than any other holiday. Ophelia Mae Mayberry Hall, Porter Mayberry’s daughter, describes how she organized a community-wide, joint celebration of Juneteenth and her father’s and uncle’s birthday—who were born in October. The combined festivities concluded after six years, when Hall’s father passed away.
