In addition to serving as one of the main houses of worship for Waco's Mexican American community, St. Francis on the Brazos Catholic Church provided many social services. In the 1960s, the Daughters of Mercy established a convent and small school which offered kindergarten and religious education courses. The church also offered English language and citizenship classes, and often provided legal assistance to immigrants seeking to obtain citizenship in their new home.
