Hodges recalls that her family was a part of the Methodist tradition since emancipation, and they joined St. James Episcopal Methodist upon moving to Waco. She also notes that New Hope Baptist and Mt. Zion Methodist worshipped together in North Waco throughout the late nineteenth century.
