James William Dixon Jr. recalls that both his father and Pat M. Neff, former Governor of Texas and President of Baylor University, were members of the freemasons and the Karem Shrine. The Pat Neff building, named for the late university president, held a Masonic ceremonial corner-stone laying to initiate the building’s construction in 1938.
